Holiday Welsh Showcase
Southwest Welsh Exhibitors and Breeders
Showcasing Welsh Ponies and Cobs at Fairplex in Pomona

Welsh ponies were brought to the United States as early as the 1880’s.  Since that time they have proven themselves to be beautiful, versatile and inspiring.  Today, Welsh Ponies and Cobs can be seen in just about any performance discipline you can name.  Welsh out-crosses have shown equal versatility.  Welsh entries have been in the Rose Parade and the Olympic ceremonies.  They are found in A-circuit competitions, the open show ring and on the trails.    In 2005 a Welsh Cob won an international Gold medal and was nominated for the United States Equestrian Federation’s Horse of the year.  If you want to jump, work cows, take a carriage ride, perform a piaffe or take the grandkids for a ride the Welsh Breed is for you.

Some of the Nations most accomplished Welsh ponies and cobs are expected to participate in the “Welsh Showcase” held at 6:30 PM, Saturday November 4th at Fairplex in Pomona.  The Showcase will be held in conjunction with the Holiday Welsh Show sponsored by the Southwest Welsh Breeders and Exhibitors.  The show runs all day from Friday to Sunday.  Both the show and Showcase are free to the public.

Included in the Showcase activities will be a special presentation of Champions from Friday’s in-hand classes.  The judge will discuss his selections and give insight into what he felt made these ponies and cobs stand out. This is an exciting opportunity to get a judges perspective on Welsh Breed type, movement and conformation.  It will be exhilarating to watch the Champions take one more Victory lap for the crowd!

In addition to the presentation of Champions, special individual segments will spotlight Welsh Ponies and Cobs that have earned National recognition with a Welsh Pony and Cob Society of America’s lifetime achievement award.  This will be a fun part of the Showcase where Ponies and Cobs can show off what made them winners.  The entries can show at liberty, in-hand, or under tack.  A synopsis of their accomplishments will be read while they strut their stuff.

Stallion showcase segments will follow the Lifetime Achievement presentations.  Pictures just don’t do these beautiful animals justice.  In person they are even more magnificent.  They truly shine when they are in the spotlight.  The audience is encouraged to cheer and stomp to show their appreciation as these stallions show off.  They do love to show off!

The public is encouraged to come enjoy some time with these beautiful animals.  The Welsh exhibitors are always happy to talk about their ponies or Cobs.  Be advised, Welsh Ponies and Cobs should come with a warning label….Welsh Ponies and Cobs may be habit forming!
